Which Serenity Character Am I? [Apr. 20th, 2006|09:24 pm]
You scored as Kaylee (Kaywinnet Lee) Frye. The Mechanic. You are a natural mechanic, and you are far too sweet and cheerful to live out here. How you can see the good in everyone around you boggles the mind occasionally. Still you don't seem to be any crazier than that, and it is a nice kinda crazy.

Why? [Jul. 5th, 2005|04:18 pm]
[mood | aggravated]
[music |Flower Man - Tonic]

Why do there have to be people out there that don't know how to have a debate?
I was having a civil discussion yesterday with someone about a certain topic. Anyways, things quickly turned into an debate. The funny part was that for every argument I had, he had a counter-argument for. But the funny part is that they were so full of logic holes, that I had a hard time countering.
This made me quite mad, which is my fault. I should have cut the debate short when I realised that he was arguing like a twelve year old. But I guess I like utterly annihilating people in debates, which probably isn't a good thing. Anyways, things ended when the ad hominem attacks started flying my way. Talk about a sore loser, he had to make himself feel better by insulting me.
Anyways, the same person was on today. Apparently he's right because he has no evidence to back his side up and it flies in the face of reason. Anyways, not an argument I wanted to continue with. This person didn't get the fact, that I wanted to end the argument, so he kept coming, insults because he had run out of points (albiet logically fallible ones) to make.
Now I don't block people on MSN, so I responded to them as even and level headedly as I could before he left.
I guess while I won the argument by actually making relevant points, I actually didn't win it as I didn't get my point across to the other side.
On a side not, life is confusing right now.

I'm Such a Slacker... [Jun. 7th, 2005|04:54 pm]
[mood | aggravated]
[music |Forever Today - Tiesto]

Well, I'm such a slacker when it comes to updating this. I was going to try for once a day. And then once a week... I'll try and do it more often now (: Anyways, the few projects I've been working on are going well. LAN party looks good to go, except we need to find some tables and chairs first. Rather not rent them as that's not cheap, but we may have to. Job searching sucks, and there really aren't that many jobs going here. I've applied at numerous places, and only had one interview, and one other show of interest. Guess that's what I get for living in a small town that's a ways away from anything interesting. One a nice aside, Guild Wars is a great game. If you play it, I generally use my character "Tamser Vales." Hmm, playing GW sounds like fun. I think I will do some of that (:

I'm quite happy, still. Found a possible place to have a LAN party at. Well, we can use it assuming it doesn't rent. I hope it doesn't rent, and chances are that it won't considering the outrageous prices realtors want here. I've been doing a lot of coding for the LAN's website, and I really should get onto a few things, such as working on our print advertising. Getting the registration form up and running would be nice as well.
Got myself a whiteboard, they're a great help when I need to think about a programming problem in a way different than I normally do. Very helpful. Mine already has a few scrawled lines of code on it, plus a small todo list (mirroring the one on my PDA). I've never been organised, but getting a PDA seems to have helped that.
Well, I need to get back to work, so...

Six Times Nine Equals Forty-Two [May. 6th, 2005|03:47 pm]
[mood | cheerful]
[music |Grevious Speaks to Lord Sidius - John Williams]

So much for updating this blog daily. Anyways, I finally got to see HHGttG on Tuesday night. Good movie, easily the best I've seen so far this year. How well does it compare to the book? Probably not well. I tend not tho compare movies to the books they are based off of (or the flipside, novelisations of movies) because for the most part the movie (or novelisation) doesn't compare very well to the original. Some of my favorite parts from the book are missing, but it was still a very enjoyable movie.
As for other things, I'm still looking for a job.

No HHGttG ): [May. 1st, 2005|12:07 am]
[mood | disappointed]
[music |None, watching TV]

Well, I didn't end up watching HHGttG. Instead a friend and I went to xXx 2. It was decent, but I liked the first one better. Not sure why, but I think Vin is a better lead actor.
Otherwise, today was mostly uneventful. I'm a bit sore now. Played some EF2 and BC (some older Trek games), and they're still fun.
Hmm, I need some sleep.

Time for a Rant! [Apr. 26th, 2005|01:12 pm]
[mood | annoyed]
[music |Dariush - IRA]

Well, I'm annoyed because the technician that's under contract from Dell is now almost two hours late to fix my laptop. So here goes a rant about Dell. Don't ask me why we ever bought stuff from Dell, probably has something to do with false advertising or some such. Anyways, I have a history of having problems with Dell. Seems they have troubles making computers that work properly. Without going into details, I can't say that the majority of computers from Dell that I've used worked right. I can't even say the minority that has is very big. Anyways, broken laptop, right. This laptop has had problems for about a year now. Yes, next business day onsite service means they may get it fixed sometime around a year later. Maybe, I still don't know as it's still broken. Currently one of the cooling fans is acting up. Not in a good way, it quits and the other fan spins up to it's full 10k RPM speed. About this time temperatures start climbing towards 100C. After a few minutes like this, either the CPU or GPU decide they don't like the heat and the laptop turns itself off. Very annoying. What is even more annoying is that the fans have been replaced before. And they were replaced before because they got overtightened and wrecked when the laptop was getting a motherboard replacement. This laptop has been serviced five times now, three of which are to correct damage from previous servicing. As for what has been replaced on the laptop: motherboard, hard drive, chassis, wireless NIC (kind of replaced, more on this later) and the fans. During the first repair for the motherboard and hard drive, the technician pulled bother batteries out of the compartments. He didn't bother using the battery releases, just tugged and broke said battery releases off. What a freakin' moron. Also managed to pinch the antenna lead for the wireless NIC in the plastic chassis while he was at it, strip a screw, overtighten the fans so they didn't work right, and last but not least, damage the wireless card. So a while down the road after the laptop suffered more damage from subsequent repairs, we sent it off to Dell for fixing. At least they were fast about that, it went off on Monday and was back home from Ontario by Thursday. Fast forward about 10 months, and Dell still hadn't sent us a properly working wireless card. So I got fed up, headed over to NCIX and bought a new one. Intel 2915ABG, works nicely. And then the fans started making noise again. After Dell sent out a motherboard and CPU cooler for a desktop computer, not a laptop (stupid, incompetent tech support people they have working for them in India that need to learn English) and we got that cleared up, I'm still waiting for the technician to come with the fans.
What makes things worse, is that I could easily install the fans myself.
Either way, I am less than impressed by Dell. Their tech support has shown their sheer incompetence to me on numerous occasions. Once they wanted me to reinstall windows for a dead cooling fan! They also had me pull various stuff out of my laptop (easy enough to do, but completely un-needed) to make sure that it was the cooling fans making the grinding noise. Now I may know lots about computer, but apparently other parts of the laptop could sound like a stuck cooling fan that I can see is having problems with my own eyes.
Well, I need to stop this now before I kill something.

[music |CBC Radio 1]

Less than two weeks until the best science fiction film this year comes out (April 29th). How do I know it'll be good? It's based off of the best series of books I have read.
Now, I'm sure that some will argue that Episode 3 will be good, but it is merely a Star Wars movie. Time will tell, but I don't foresee disappointment.
In other news I'm still depressed, just not to the same extent. But I am lonely, despite spending more time with friends lately.

Blurgh [Apr. 7th, 2005|09:41 pm]
[mood | sleepy]
[music |Soul Bossa Nova - Quincy Jones]

I'm trying to decide if the sleeping meds are helping any or not. I'm sleeping, but it sure isn't a good sleep. Sleep for the body rather than the mind.
Other than that, I'm in a decent enough mood. Helped a friend build a new computer, and got a new network switch. Yes, a network switch is enough to make me happy. I must be a geek (: Switch is noisey, but that doesn't really matter. Been using my PDA more. MSN is nice in the palm of your hand.
On a side not, a certain movie comes out on the 29th. I can't wait. A Friend and I are going to go see it, hopefully opening night. Should kick some major ass if the trailer is any indication.
Busy weekend, I seem to be quadruple booked. Plus there's that matter of some writing I need to do. Hmm, going to get to that (:

Sin City was Different [Apr. 4th, 2005|09:58 pm]
[mood | sleepy]
[music |Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf]

Went to see Sin City this evening with a friend. Good movie. Definitely different. Apparently it was completely shot using digital HD cameras, so I guess that means that there was no film involved. Lots of green screen work, and it shows at a few points. It also had some interesting parts. Lots of killing, lots of stylistic gore. Also looks like a Tarantino, which I'm pretty sure is the actual one he directed. All in all, a good movie.
Is it better than hostage? I'm not sure. They're different movies.
Well, I'm tired and I don't feel like writing, so I'm going to try and sleep tonight, unlike last night.

Free Movies Are Good (: [Apr. 2nd, 2005|09:41 pm]
[mood | okay]
[music |Sandstorm (Superchumbo Sandy Storm remix)]

Feeling better today, might have something to do with the fact that I actually got something resembling a full night's sleep last night. Yay for pharmaceutical chemistry. Went and saw a movie with my Dad. Seeing as we both know the manager, we got a free movie. That's always good. Anyways, went and saw Hostage. I liked it. The opening credits were good, easily the most unique I've seen in a while. Some great acting. I think I'm going to try and go see Sin City at some point. Apparently it's good as well.
Seeing as I'm really tired for some reason (at this early hour of just before 10PM), I'm going to go do something else rather than try and type coherent sentences.

Today is Better (: [Apr. 1st, 2005|10:32 pm]

[music |Benny Benassi - Satisfaction]

Went out for supper with friends. Makes me feel better, but at some level things still feel bad inside. Supper was good, a local restaurant. Blogging somehow makes me feel better. Halo2 with a trainer is fun, albeit best with a rocket launcher.
Going to try and add something meaningful here when I feel better. Maybe some astrophysics stuff of some sort.

[mood | depressed]
[music |Mars From the Planets]

I'd have to say that this has to have been the most lackluster birthday I've had. That could just be the depression though.
Should anyone actually care, I slept poorly last night. Despite a mild sleep aid. Ah well, lack of sleep makes school, er, fun. Yes, that's not sarcasm.
Anyways, blogging with my x50v isn't easy, so I'm off now.

Mmm, Depression [Mar. 30th, 2005|02:40 pm]
[mood | depressed]
[music |Tiesto - Traffic]

Here goes my first attempt at a blog. After some convincing by a few friends I decided it was time to get a blog. So I set out to code my own. After a couple thousand lines of PHP, and more features than I'll ever need, so I decided I needed something simple. So another friend suggested LJ. So here I am.
I'm not sure what to talk about other than my mood, which has been poor for the last few days. Poor is an understatement. I don't think I've ever felt quite as bad as I did a few times over the weekend. Seems like depression. I'm going to go talk to my family doctor about it.
Other than that, the prospect of getting this year of school over with isn't as big a things as it should probably be. The prospect of going on a trip somewhere, possibly visiting a very interesting person I know, definitely makes me feel somewhat better. She's actually quite good at making me feel better (:
Anyways, since I am supposed to be working here in school right now, I'll be going.
